Do I need an eye exam if I see fine?

Yes. Many eye problems start with no signs, and an exam can find them early. It also tells you whether your glasses or contact lenses still suit your eyes.

How often should I have an exam?

Many people come every year or two. Children, people with diabetes or a family history of eye disease, and anyone over 60 may need to come more often. Your doctor tells you when to return.

Do you work with my vision plan?

We work with many vision plans and medical insurance plans. Call the office you plan to visit, and we check your benefits before the visit when we can.

Why was part of my visit billed to medical insurance?

A routine exam goes to a vision plan. A visit for an eye problem, a check on an eye disease or a follow-up goes to medical insurance. Many visits include both, and each part is billed to the plan that pays for it.

Can I fill my prescription somewhere else?

Yes. Your prescription is yours. You get a copy after your exam and fitting, and you can fill it anywhere you like.

Can I have my contact lens prescription?

Yes. Once your contact lens fitting is finished, we give you the prescription, and you can order your lenses from any seller.

What do I bring to my exam?

Bring your current glasses and contact lenses, a list of the medicines you take, your vision plan or insurance card, and a photo ID.

How much will it cost?

It depends on your plan and on what your visit includes. Our How fees work page explains what each plan covers, and you can ask for a written estimate before your visit.

What if I have an eye emergency?

Sudden vision loss, a curtain over your vision, a sudden shower of floaters, an eye injury or a chemical splash needs care now. Call the office right away or go to the nearest emergency room. If you can't reach us, call 911.

Can I see a doctor at a different office?

Yes. Your chart is the same at all six offices, and each doctor sees patients at two of them. Tell us which doctor or language you want when you book.
